Vision Screener for Pediatric Providers
Screenings such as photoscreening and visual acuity enable timely intervention by preventing amblyopia and long-term vision impairment. Incorporating an accurate, easy-to-use pediatric vision screener into your clinic workflow gives you the ability to catch risk factors earlier when outcomes are better.
What do the AAP, AAO, and AAPOS recommend for pediatric vision screening?
The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) now recommends photoscreening beginning at age 1 and attempting visual acuity screening starting at age 4. Instrument-based photoscreening is used to determine refractive errors and identify risk factors for amblyopia.1 It detects amblyopic risk factors such as hyperopia, myopia, and anisometropia. Photoscreeners, unlike a visual acuity test, allow pediatric providers, vision screening organizations, schools, and Head Start programs to vision screen children who are too young to perform a visual acuity test (vision chart).
But there's good news. GoCheck Kids does both!
"Without early detection and treatment, uncorrected vision disorders can impair child development, interfere with learning, and even lead to permanent vision loss....One of the greatest concerns is that vision loss will impact a child's quality of life, affecting financial, social, and employment opportunities over his or her lifespan." -- National Center for Children's Vision and Eye Health

GoCheck Kids
Vision Screener
Check Kids’ Vision Before They Can Read An Eye Chart
The American Academy of Pediatrics vision screening policies recommend instrument-based screening as early as 12 months with photoscreening being the most common type.
At Under A Minute, It’s Faster Than Visual Acuity Chart Testing.
And it takes place at a shorter distance, ideal for exam rooms. It’s not invasive, and no dilation is necessary. It’s as easy as taking a photo with a flash.
The GoCheck Kids photoscreener is the only one built around a smartphone. Our software evaluates the image’s light reflection pattern and scores for different risk factors. The pediatrician decides whether to refer the child for a comprehensive eye exam.
GoCheck Kids Photoscreener detects the presence of conditions that are risk factors for amblyopia, including:
Nearsightedness
Farsightedness
Asymmetrical refraction
Alerts the clinician to possible ocular misalignment.
Possible gaze deviations

GoCheck Kids Visual Acuity
Best Practices for Visual Acuity Testing Differ by Age
Tests using HOTV optotypes are recommended for vision screening in young children.
Tests using Sloan optotypes are recommended for vision screening with children that can read letters.
GoCheck Kids Digital Visual Acuity Combines Best-Practice Methods
Innovative Solution
GoCheck Kids’ innovative testing logic is designed to be as effective as standard visual acuity testing in a pediatric ophthalmology setting.
This smartphone-based solution uses recommended optotypes based on age: HOTV with crowding bars or Sloan optotypes in a modified-ETDRS approach.
Start at Age 4
The GoCheck Kids digital visual acuity test is best started at age 4 (the American Academy of Pediatrics, American Academy of Ophthalmology, and American Association of Pediatric Ophthalmology & Strabismus recommendation).
Early Treatment
Reduced vision contributes to learning and socializing issues and even permanent vision loss. Effective testing at a young age means children can get the treatment they need before before their visual system has finished developing.
